About the Artist.
Bartholomeus Breenbergh (1598–1657) a Dutch landscape painter, draughtsman, and etcher, who, with Poelenburch , led the first generation of Dutch Italianates. Born in Deventer, he worked in Rome 1619–29, then in Amsterdam until his death. He painted landscapes and Christian scenes.
